Virginia Highland Neighborhood Summary

Known as Va-Hi to locals, the Virginia Highland area began in the early 20th century as a streetcar suburb and has since become a popular entertainment destination. Due to its close proximity to campus, this area has become popular for bar hopping among Emory students, leading to a louder and more college-esque nightlife. However, many of the side streets and residential areas of this neighborhood are very quiet and serene. If you want a little bit of nature, be sure to hike or bike the gorgeous Morningside Nature Preserve. They also throw big events during the year, including the live music festival of Summerfest. Residents can enjoy many vintage apartment buildings, bungalows, and old cottages.
