Cabbagetown Neighborhood Summary

Cabbagetown earned its unique name from the neighborhood’s poor history, wherein impoverished factory workers ate old cabbage to sustain themselves and their families. Of course, the neighborhood has since become a hip, up-and-coming area filled with unique restaurants, private grocers, hip bars, avant-garde art galleries, and trendy loft spaces. The roads are slim and lined by historic row houses and renovated industrial buildings. Cabbagetown’s community could easily be called “alternative,” sporting hipster clothing and tattoos. It is the perfect area for artsy college students and post-graduates.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
