Anyone who looks outside of Wilmington to find cheaper apartment prices is wasting their time. The only two places within ten miles that have lower average rents are Hempstead and Burgaw, but the difference of a couple hundred per month isn’t worth the long commute you’ll have to make to get to class, in my opinion. Students with roommates and reasonable expectations (e.g. not luxury or an oceanfront property) can expect to pay anywhere from $400 to $700 per month. I’ve known a lot people who have rented for less, actually. Housing around here is very affordable, which makes living close to school possible for anyone. The CFCC campus overlooks the Cape Fear River, and on a warm day it’s nice to walk along its edges. But most students would tell you that they’d rather hit Route 74 and take it ten miles east. This is where the Wrightsville Beach is, which is probably the city’s best and most popular spot on the Atlantic. CFCC is also right down the street from Wilmington’s historic district and downtown neighborhood, both of which are ripe for exploring for their shopping and dining during the day, and nightlife when the sun sets.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
