It’s assumed that Chicago is the closest big city to Grayslake because of its location in Illinois. But the Wisconsin border is 15 minutes from campus, and Milwaukee is just as close as Chicago is; they’re both around an hour drive away. In fact, you take the same road, I-94, to go to both places. As for everyday commuters, 94 could easily become their best friend, but if they can they’ll try to take Route 45 instead. CLC sits right on 45, and the traffic rarely is as bad as it can be on 94. If students move off campus, they usually move to somewhere like Waukegan or North Chicago. The diversity you’ll find in the Chicago metropolitan area is sorely missed in Grayslake, which has a population that’s 91 percent white. Asians are the largest minority group; they make up just under five percent of the population. Fortunately, at CLC, you’ll be able to find a much more diverse population. The school has a Multicultural Student Center, and several clubs and students orgs that are dedicated to specific ethnicities and heritages. It’ll be easy to find someone just like you there, and more importantly, students who aren’t like you.
