Find a Turlock Apartment

Small, for a California city, Turlock is home to 70,000 Californians. The city has been in a more-or-less constant state of growth since the 1980s. One of the large reasons it grew so quickly was that housing remained affordable for years in Turlock while prices skyrocketed in the interior of the Bay Area. The city grew so large that it reached the absolute northern limit of expansion as defined by the original city plan.

The California State University, Stanislaus is found within Turlock. Usually just called "Stan State", this is a smaller university that enrolls just under 9,000 students in an average year. Turlock also has an unfortunate black mark on its history. It was the location of one of the infamous internment camps that the U.S. used to imprison Japanese Americans following the attack on Pearl Harbor.

When to Search

Try hunting for apartments in the months of January through March if you have the option. You'll find that the competition is less fierce at this time of the year. This sometimes helps make landlords a little more amenable in terms of accepting new tenants, as they're eager to fill their suites in a slightly cooler rental market.

Staying in the Know

If you're a student at Stan State, or if you've just got a new job in Turlock, you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding an apartment. If you've already got connections in the town, using a local reference is a great way to help your application. Your employer or a professor at the University are perfect examples of good, local references.
