Live Life Well! Nine story high-rise with parking garage. The Hillcrest has been one of Toledo's premier, architecturally significant landmarks since 1929. It s now reborn as modern apartment homes while retaining its reputation for style and sophistication. In short, it offers the best of both worlds...modern technology with old-world charm.

I have lived here for 6yrs. and for the most part, it is a great place to live. In the time that I have been here we've gone through about ten managers but our current manager, Melissa, is the best manager yet. If you go to her with a problem she is more than happy to help you get the problem solved. Managing an apartment complex has to be a stressful job and Melissa handles her duties like a pro! She's doing a FANTASTIC job!!!

If I were to express my time at the Hillcrest in one word, that word would be: Stressful.
The beauty of the Historic Hillcrest ends at the front door. It is difficult to convince people who do not actually live there otherwise. When you are looking at the Hillcrest online, it seems like a diamond in the rough. Reasonable pricing, beautiful building, pictures of a clean lobby, clean and unique apartments. Everything seems too good to be true. Trust me, life at the Hillcrest is far from pleasant.
Hillcrest management actively tries to make the renting process difficult. The office hours fluctuate daily. The staff will find any way they can to save money and take your money. Getting your AC fixed is a huge hassle, and they will always take the cheap option. I talked to the AC repair man and he told me that they had him only "patch the leak" in the AC unit. He informed them that it would likely break again very soon, but they did not care as it saved them money. The repair man was correct, as the AC unit broke two weeks later, in mid-August. We had AC for only two weeks last summer, making our apartment a hot and muggy oven.
Simply put, the place is terrible and you will almost certainly have a bad experience.

DO NOT LIVE HERE!
management will ruin your life. maintenance came and went as they pleased with no notice. they dead bolted our patio we paid for. kind of has an all around strange odor (maybe from too many pets) and the landlord flat out has a divorced soccer mom "let me speak to your manager" haircut.

The Historic Hillcrest is a beautiful apartment building COMPLETELY RUINED by those who manage it- specifically the office manager, Melissa.
The lobby and hallways are poorly kept. One will often find himself greeted by the piercing odor of dog feces when he enters the lobby. It absolutely REEKS, unless a new tenant is coming for a tour that day.
The staff promises to be in from 9:00-6:00, but this was often not the case. I got home from work around 5:45 and rarely saw anybody in the office to assist me. Sometimes I would come home at lunch to talk and they wouldn't be their either! They put up a lunch sign that covers a large portion of the afternoon.
We, at apartment 905, were directly wronged on many occasions.
1. Our apartment was regularly entered without permission for the first 8 months we lived there.
2. We had roughly 3 months without heat or air. we were absolutely frozen on the top floor when winter hit.
3. We were locked out of our roof patio which was promised to us at the time of the lease. There was no warning. The locks were changed and we were unable to retrieve our properties, nor were they returned to us.
4. The janitorial staff came into our apartment to fix a leak in our sink, spilled gunky water all over our carpet and forced us to finish out our stay with a huge and disgusting stain.
5. The manager at the Hillcrest attempted to charge us rent for the month of September when our lease ended in August. We were out by August 31st and attempted to return our keys to the staff on two occasions. Since the office staff is NEVER IN THE OFFICE, they were unreachable. They are now trying to charge us over $900 because there was a key not in their possession.
I would only recommend staying here if the management changed.

I've lived here for 5 years now. This is one of the best options for downtown Toledo living. The price is more affordable than most other high-rises in downtown. The location is perfect - your close everything - Adams St., The OWE, TMA, and everything downtown; you're centered around all of it. The management has always been fantastic - they listen to my concerns and issues and address them immediately with follow-up. The neighbors in the building are great people. We have an on-site dog park for those with dogs. My actual apartment always makes people envious. I have a corner unit with an amazing view of the city skyline, plenty of square-footage, and a great layout. I love the old hotel charm of the building. I can go to something shiny and new to live in, but you lose that quaintness and charm. I mean, back in the day this is where all the rich people mingled. My favorite story to tell people is that Amelia Earhart stayed here and actually had an arrow painted on our roof to direct pilots to the Toledo Airport. How cool is that. This is a great place to call home, and I would recommend anyone check it out!

Toledo grad student who has a masters and is obtaining a second certification in the medical field. Been a resident of hillcrest since January bc of price and location not bc of staff. Completely fed up with the FAT lady who runs the office. Ask her anything besides what she wants for lunch and believe me it will not be a friendly exchange. Yea I understand being in property management isn't easy but neither is medicine. I don't want to interact with my office staff as if I have done something wrong for asking a question. I never get rude or vulgar but I'm fed up as most of the residents are. Get rid of her! She's a cancer to the potential this place has.

The apartments are very nice. The neighbors are all super friendly. On site laundry with a card system so I don't have to have a billion quarters. Dog friendly. Management is in a constant influx so it's a bit unknown how it's going to be in a year but overall nice.
To comfortably afford an apartment, we recommend having at least three times your monthy rent in gross household income.
