Technically speaking, Stony Brook is only a hamlet. The small town is home to just under 14,000 people. It sprung up around a mill which had been in existence for hundreds of years. You can also travel east instead and visit some fantastic beaches. Even closer is the Caleb-Smith State Park which has hiking trails and a park museum.
