I've lived here for two years. This year, I was placed with roommates that made my living environment unsafe - I was being harassed through text, my property was being destroyed, and I would come home to my things packed up with animal fecal matter on the boxes. I kept the office updated through the whole issue, and nothing was resolved. The manager (Whitney) would not try to help me in any way. Ashley Little was the only office staff that even attempted to help me better the situation. It got so bad that the SPD officer who is our resource officer, told me to file police reports against my roommates. I went to the office with this information, and I offered them 3 months rent ($604/month) up front to let me out of my lease, and when they denied that I offered 4 months. Again, I was denied. They later called me and offered to waive the transfer fee ($250) so I could switch rooms. The day before I was scheduled to move, I went to actually see my room, and I was informed that the room would be "as is". In this case, that meant there were still nails in the walls, one of the electric sockets wasn't properly fastened, and there was trash and grime EVERYWHERE. I moved into this apartment and spent my first 4 hours there cleaning. I cleaned my apartment before I left it as well. Two days after moving, I got a call from the office telling me that I would either pay $35 or come back that afternoon to clean my previous room better. This place is built cheap, is too small for too high of rent, and is managed poorly.

The exterior and amenities look nice, but I strongly suggest taking a closer look. The staff is not helpful at all. It takes multiple phone calls to resolve what should be easy and straightforward issues. The managing company (Park East) will harass you and try to fine and fee you to death if you let them. Totally unreasonable. Could not recommend to anybody.

Im on year 2 living at aspen and I LOVE IT! Aspen is a place you can call home. Maintance is amazing! I put in a work order and its always fixed in 24-48hrs. Love that feature. I have nothing to worry about when it comes to trash either. I set my trash can outside my door every night and it is taken out for me. The gym has the finest machines and lots of variety! Also, its open 24hrs so no one has to see you dying while running or lifting weights! Love that part. And last but definitely not least, the staff!!!!!!!!! I love the staff at aspen! They all know me well and make A conscious effort to form a relationship with all of their residents including myself. Ericka, manager of Aspen, does a wonderful job dealing with all of us and all of your concerned parents. Love living at aspen!

My apartment was not cleaned whatsoever whenever I moved in; there was grease and trash all over the place. Aspen is disgusting overall. On at least a weekly basis, there was dog feces or vomit in the hallways that often stood for days before the staff would clean it up. By the end of my year-long stay at Aspen I started to notice quite a few rats in the stairwells and hallways. Aspen is also outrageously loud. The walls are thin and you can hear all of the drunk people out on the streets and in the hallways. Throughout my stay, I also noticed quite a few belligerent people around the property. Specifically, there was one man who seemed to frequent the St. Louis street sidewalk around 2 or 3 a.m. who would yell obscenities, consistently waking me up. The belligerent people also seemed to pose a safety concern. My roommates and I had to call to the authorities several times because of shady characters that appeared to be under the influence. The computer room downstairs was infiltrated by some of these shady people, so I never felt comfortable doing homework late at night in their designated club room. Additionally, the staff is unprofessional and unorganized. I have talked to several different staff members and they all talk down to you like you do not know what you're talking about. I will say that the general manager, Ericka Peppers, is the exception to this rule and she is actually helpful and professional in my experience. There have been several times where the office has failed to pick up the phone during business hours for extended lengths of time and the front desk staff has prevented me from talking to the manager the past three times I have contacted them because she has been "too busy." My largest complaint by far is the outrageous move-out charges. Aspen charged me a total of $306.25 for common room paint ($68.75 to each of my roommates), bedroom paint ($200), and common room cleaning ($37.50 to each of my roommates), which is ridiculous considering that there was nothing but normal wear and tear to my room or common area, which is outlined in the lease as being outside the responsibilities of the tenant. I have been in contact with them and they did take a total of $100 off of my bill, but $206.25 is still an outrageous amount. They insist that they had to paint the full walls, which is not the case. They are trying to charge me and my roommates for their renovations. It did not cost Aspen $200 to fix small blemishes in the bedroom nor did it cost them the $275 and $150 they are charging to paint small blemishes in the common area and clean the small areas my roommates and I missed. If you value cleanliness, peace and quiet, safety, professionalism, and your money, I would not recommend Aspen.
