Santa Monica College

Santa Monica is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Nearly every resident here has found success in their careers, or in your case, are going to school at SMC to launch their careers. You’ll be glad to hear that wealthier neighborhoods in LA typically have more rentals. Unfortunately, because there’s so much money here, those apartments have extremely high monthly rates. LA is expensive in general, but that’s especially true in a wealthy area like Santa Monica. Santa Monica is not just one of the most beautiful parts of Los Angeles, but also in the entire country. Students will spend a lot of time on the beaches that are just a mile away from campus, as well as outdoor areas like Palisades Park and the Will Rogers State Park. Downtown Santa Monica is also a mile away, and has great dining and shopping. Downtown Los Angeles is just 13 miles away with all of its culture and bright lights. But if you want to get away from the urban area, the hills and state parks like the Topanga State Park, the Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park, and the Crestwood Hills Park are within 15 miles to the northwest.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
