Rockford, Illinois has a wide variety of great little restaurants. Beefaroo has the best cheeseburgers in town, no doubt about that. The Social Urban Bar & Restaurant is a stylish little restaurant with an extensive drinks menu and all the fresh and local flavor you want. The Octane InterLounge is another chic little dining destination. For Japanese food, try the JMK Nippon Restaurant, Marc’s Fusion Cafe, or Kuma’s Asian Bistro; all are well-liked. A restaurant called “Der Rathskeller” is actually an authentic German restaurant, especially popular due to the high population of Germans in the region. For pizza, go to Capri, or Lino’s. On-campus at RVC, there is a Subway, Papa John’s, some vending machines, and a small coffee shop. There are no dorms at RVC, so no dining halls, either, but with the extensive local cuisine options, I don’t think too many students are upset about this. Since RVC does not offer student housing, students must either be locals, commuters, and/or find their own housing nearby. In terms of one-bedrooms in Rockford, it seems as though half are about $420/month, and the other half are around $900/month. Two-bedrooms average around $500-850/month. In Rockford, you could find a three-bedroom for $1200/month, and a four-bedroom for $700/month. The prices here are all over. For those wanting college roommates, you could certainly save a lot of money renting a townhouse and splitting the bills three or four ways.
