Update: I am still living here. In the past few weeks things have gotten much better. Both elevators are now working, and the stairwells have been cleaned (AND PAINTED). I can now say this is a great place to live. Past Review The Stratum is a great place location wise, but I think management can do much more to make sure some of the college students that live here don't completely tear the building apart. The stairwells are always terrible to walk through because of the trash that's left in them, but you're always left having to take the stairs because the elevators are always broken. As a resident, we pay too much money for these minor issues that make a big difference.

Would NOT recommend staying here at all. I stayed here for two years and had enough and couldnt wait to leave. Management changes every season and unprofessional and not helpful. The current management seems to be doing their jobs at improving the overall facility but still varies time to time. For months the entire complex was infested with gnats and probably other bugs and rodents because the trash chutes were not being properly emptied. Only recently did they finally handle the problem in its entirety but my room still had tons of gnats. They need to desperately improve their roommate matching system - it is pretty nonexistent and Ive had horrible roommates which they did nothing to solve the ongoing problems even when they became life threatening! Positives: includes furniture, workout room, and mailboxes are helpful. Safety is very high and security guards are on site at night time. Maintenance quickly fixes any issues - which is funny because management lacks acting quickly to problem solve or help residents. At one point I heard one of the new female managers (Holly I believe) talking down about the residents. Ridiculous! Furniture is outdated and needs to be replaced along with the work out equipment. Elevators are always broken! Staircase is filthy and disgusting. Stratum cant keep residents, cant keep a good staff, and cant keep anything clean nor their residents happy!

Do NOT SIGN a lease for this place. The company, UCOMM, is completely MONEY HUNGRY and that is their main priority: MONEY. There was an incident of sexual assault here, and the manager felt it appropriate to respond via mass email by saying "Your safety is your responsibility." instead of giving the residents a sense of reassurance that they can feel comfortable where they are spending their money. There is an annual infestation of gnats and the only response is "We're doing all that we can." They were on the news because of the gnats and garbage not being removed from the property for about a MONTH, and we received an email saying "Contrary to popular belief, we are doing everything we can." That was extremely unprofessional and shady. If you were, this wouldn't happen literally every year. The trash shoots are emptied at the most every two weeks, which gives the building a very putrid smell. It's bad enough that a lot of the residents that lived there during my lease were very dirty because they primarily lease to college freshmen. Roommate altercations are handled to a minimum. Any complaints about neighbors (smoking, loud music, etc.) go unaddressed and are pushed to the side. You're lucky if maintenance even acknowledges your requests. I have made it a point to clean every aspect of what I was responsible for while living there, and was charged ANOTHER MONTH'S RENT IN DAMAGES BECAUSE OF MY ROOMMATES' FILTH! The Stratum cannot keep a staff and it cannot keep residents. UCOMM, this has to tell you SOMETHING! Currently, I am waiting to further discuss the issues that I have with the charges on my account. I am optimistic that it could be handled in order to find a middle ground. I will give an update.

Do NOT waste your time and money here. Ive had countless issues with the Stratum starting the very month I moved in. They charged me for rent TWICE and refused to work with me for weeks to try and get my money back. When I first moved in, I signed when they had a deal going on where I would get $200 rent credit to my account, and when the time came for me to get the credit, they tried to tell me I didnt sign during the deal, when I very well did. It took them weeks to honor the deal and finally give me the credit. A few weeks before I moved out, I woke up to a flooded apartment after a maintenance man busted the pipe under the sink. Thats honestly just A FEW of the problems Ive had with the Stratum. This place is really just a glorified dorm. Dont waste your money here.
