My husband and I moved in earlier this year with great hopes for Bay Colony. After reading the reviews, I was hesitant about moving in, but the prices were decent and they had availability for immediate move-in. Slowly, I've noticed things that really bother me.
First of all, they have an issue with roaches. In the first month, we killed about 5 of those little suckers. The frustrating thing is, there is actually a pest fee tacked on to your monthly rent payment. It's only a couple of dollars, but money is money. If you're going to charge anything to get rid of bugs, get rid of the bugs. I wouldn't even mind paying a few more bucks if I could be sure our home would be pest free.
Second, we've called maintenance three times since we moved here. Two out of three of those times, our issues were taken care of in a timely manner. However, the second time we called about an issue with one of our power outlets (it's loose and doesn't work properly). No one ever showed up. I was told someone would be out within a week, but I guess because it wasn't an emergency, they swept it under the rug hoping we'd forget. Or perhaps they lost the work order. Either way, we are paying customers, and someone should've responded to our needs, no matter how small the issue.
Third, my biggest issue with them thus far, was an incident when I tried to pay my rent online. I usually brought in a money order, (NEVER being late) but that gets old pretty quickly. So I decided to take advantage of their online system. They charged me a $15 service fee for that, which was annoying, but I went ahead and did it. Then, a few days later, I realized that they still hadn't pulled the money out of my account. I received a text from them letting me know I was late on my rent. When I checked online, there was no proof I had paid at all. If I hadn't noticed that they had my credit card information on file, I would've thought that I had forgotten to pay or I had made a mistake. I knew that I had paid, but couldn't prove it. When I called the front desk, the girl was sympathetic with me, but I was still required to pay the late charges ($60). I understand that I was late on my rent, and it's stated in my lease that there is a late fee, however, I was only late due to their online system and I feel that after our loyal services and never being late before, this should've been waved.
Lastly, there are things this apartment complex lacks that definitely makes this place a pit stop for us. A gym, washer/dryer connections, a gate/more security or cameras, etc. I honestly don't feel comfortable taking a stroll once it's dark due to the lack of cameras and lighting. The towing issue also seems to bother a lot of people, and I can see why. We'd love to have friends over for dinner, but due to the fact that we only have one visitor pass, we're limited. At Remington Apartments (right down the street), they have certain rows of parking spaces just for visitors (no pass needed). I think this would greatly help with the towing issue.
However, due to all of these reviews, I'm almost positive that management sincerely does not take their tenants opinions to heart. If this many people are complaining about key issues, you need to start working on them or continue to have a questionable reputation. And rather than replying to everyone "In our lease agreement, it states..." because I'm not questioning what the lease states. Perhaps you could start listening to your tenants rather than brushing them off with technicalities.
When you treat your customers/tenants respectfully and do everything you can to make their experience a good one, providing outstanding/reputable services, you gain your tenants trust and lasting relationship.
There are a few pros, I'll admit. The staff is friendly, and I do feel that they try their best. (I can't say the same for management). The people living here are quiet and friendly. The dog parks, though small, are a plus.
All I can say is, this isn't a long term option for us. Definitely weigh your options before moving in.
