I have lived at this apartment complex for 3 years and did not have any issues until PHILIPS Management took over the apartment complex. First year I lived there, I believe my rent was $515. Throughout my first year I did not have any major complaints. My second year was overall enjoyable as well. I signed early and my rent dropped to $499 which was nice since it was my second year with University Edge and staying in the same apartment. However my third year has been the complete opposite of enjoyable. My rent increased to $530 and I am unsure why. I signed early and my apartment didn't change. I thought this was extremely disappointing. Majority of my roommates moved out for various reasons so I had 3 new roommates who I all knew. University Edge wanted professional carpet cleaning and painting and repairs done before everyone moved out. I purchased a $100 carpet cleaning machine to clean the carpets because they were never cleaned professional before. (Before being cleaned the floor turned everyone's feet black and would rub off on shoes and in the shower). I cleaned the common area and all bedrooms. I even provided images of the carpet cleaning machine that contained the disgusting water and material that it picked up but University Edge did not appreciate it. They instead wanted to charge a few hundred for professional carpet cleaning. Also they want you to cover up wall damages so the painter's are able to paint over the damage which I think is fair since they allow you to use nails or screws to hang up decor. University Edge decided to charge me for common area wall damages which were covered up by my roommates BUT was not painted over by the painters. I was in the apartment while they were painting and all rooms were done except the common area so I was left with white spots all over my common area walls. They still charged my account and when I brought this to management, they said they went to every apartment to inspect the cleaning and painting. When emailed again, they then decided that the painters "forgot" to paint the common area and would dismiss the charges.
Overall the past 3 years I have formed some complaints. Parking is pretty decent if you live in the first or second building, but if you live in the third building it's a good walk because parking is limited. Also the first building is party central. Lots of alcohol cans from the night before thrown over the grounds. The smell of pot intruded into my apartment which made me very unhappy. People would smoke on the balconies which made the smell even worse. I understand college students and the party scene etc but I do not enjoy paying a monthly rent when I walk outside overwhelmed by the smell of pot, throw up in front of our door/on our doormat, outside lights shattered, glass over the wood, and trash everywhere. I cannot speak for the other buildings but if you want a quiet peaceful environment, do not live in the first building or at University Edge. Our door hangers and doormats were stolen. Music was loud on Thursday and Saturday nights which I never complained about because that was the only days our neighbors had loud music and those are the party nights. The staff at University Edge is EXTREMELY judgmental. If they do not like you, they will ensure you do not have a great experience as the other residents. When a resident goes into the office and leaves, the management will continue to talk poorly about the resident which is so unprofessional. Management frequently discusses parties and what parties they are going to. They pick favorite residents then hire them to work or will have them come to the office and hang out. The staff is so rude and was not like that until PHILIPS management took over.
One of the good experiences I had through University Edge is the maintenance crew. When I submitted a maintenance request, it was usually fixed within that day or the next. They were always incredible nice, respectful, and hard working. They do everything they can to clean up all the alcohol cans, broken glass, or broken lights. Their hard work goes unnoticed by management. All maintenance crew workers were amazing.
Overall, if you want a good college experience I recommend living at Buc Ridge. I know college students don't want campus housing but you won't get extra monthly charges for random stuff and won't be charged an expensive move out fee because it wasn't cleaned to their expectations. I am very upset that the money I spent for rent resulted in a poor experience.
