The Wandering Notebook



Some mornings begin quietly.



The coffee steams on the windowsill, and the city outside has not yet

remembered how to be loud. This is the hour writers love â?? a soft,

unguarded space be fore the day makes its demands.



"The best ideas arrive before you are ready for them,"

she used to say, tapping her pen against the desk.



There are rules to a morning like this:



Do not check the phone.

Write one true sentence.

Then write another.

Indented deeper still, a small confession hides here:

most of what gets written will be deleted by noon.

And that is perfectly fine.
