The township of Galloway has its origins in 1774 when it was founded. The land it was built on historically belonged to the Lenape people before Europeans settled the area. It has grown to a population of close to 38,000 since that time.

Galloway is just north of Atlantic City and has strong ties with that much better known New Jersey city. The Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, for example, markets itself as an Atlantic City luxury resort despite being located to the north of the city itself. Another tie to Atlantic City is that Galloway was the original home of the infamous Atlantic City Mob Boss, Nucky Johnson.
