Elizabeth City State University

The apartments in Elizabeth City are very cheap, with students paying anywhere from $300 a month to $700 a month if they can get 1 or 2 roommates to live with them (the majority of apartments here are 2 or 3 bedrooms.) Don’t listen to claims that there aren’t a lot of rentals in the area. Even though Elizabeth City is a very small city, it still has a lot of rental opportunities in the form of apartments or houses. Every summer after the end of the spring semester and before the beginning of the fall, there are always dozens of vacancies that pop up for students, and they’re always very affordable. ECSU is, without a doubt, one of the best public historically black universities in America. The curriculums, instructors, and facilities all combine to provide students the best chance to succeed academically. And what does this student body look like? Unlike many of the nation’s historically black schools where the Caucasian population is in the single percentage digits, or nonexistent, there is actually a large White population here of around 15 percent. But the majority of students (around 75 percent) are Black, and the ratio of females to males is almost as disproportionate (64 to 36 percent).
