Mchenry County College

McHenry County College is located on the border of Crystal Lake and Woodstock, and is positioned in a safe part of both areas. It’s considered to be part of Crystal Lake’s Bull Valley neighborhood, which has the second lowest crime in the area behind southwestern Crystal Lake (near the golf course). The college is also bordered by Woodstock’s Ridgefield neighborhood, which has a slightly higher crime rate than Bull Valley but is also considered safe. I really wouldn’t worry about parking your car here, or walking to classes. It’s a part of town with friendly people and low crime. There are around 25 parks of all shapes and sizes located in Crystal Park. They’re perfect for families, but as a student they’re also ideal for quiet studying or hanging out with your friends on a warm day. The Crystal Lake Park District does a great job of maintaining all of the local facilities, and is always finding ways to improve the parks. Arguably the most popular recreational area in town is the city’s namesake, Crystal Lake, and its two beaches (Main Beach and West Beach). If you find an apartment in Crystal Lake and are wondering what to do after class or on summer break, look no further than the local parks and beaches.
