Our move-in to Lofts at Wolf pen creek was scheduled on 08/16/2019. When we went to collect keys for our apartment at 10 AM and tried moving into our new house, we figured out that the house was not at all cleaned by the management . The house was in unhygienic and unhealthy condition. I have attached pictures for your reference. There was trash left by previous tenants everywhere. There were pet poop and chewed bones lying in the house (Lofts is a pet-free community haha). Also, the unit had a lot of maintenance issues. The window blinds were all broken, drip plans were not replaced etc. and it was clear that the unit was never inspected and cleaned after the previous tenants moved out.
We requested them from morning 10:30 AM to 5 PM to clean the unit so that we could move-in. We took leave from our work for moving-in. They did not care to clean the house and did not care to give us alternate accommodation even though we tried to explain them our financial problems and current living scenario. The manager accepted that the unit was not in a livable condition, but was not willing to compensate for their mistake or give us an alternate accommodation.
In the end we had to tell them to terminate our lease. They did terminate our lease but did not compensate us for the money we are going to lose for paying electricity, buying renters insurance, cancelling check and all the moving hassle we went through (booking uhaul for moving and then finding another to take things back). The manager (Caleb) said that the compensation from their side would be the cancellation of lease, which is ridiculous considering the fact that we did not have any house to stay. We were subjected to a lot of trauma because finding a new place to stay, which is reasonably priced immediately is not easy considering the fact that the semester was about to begin.
