Find a Chico Apartment

Chico is a city that values its parkland immensely. Bidwell Park is the 13th largest city owned park in the United States, and covers over 17% of the city that houses 86,000 people. In addition to the parks that make Chico famous, it is also home to California State University, Chico.

Chico is a city with a few different eclectic claims to fame that extend beyond the park. For example, the National Yo-Yo museum, featuring a Yo-Yo that is over four feet tall can be found here. It is also an agricultural hotbed, with the most important local crop being almonds.

When to Search

Chico is typical of California cities in that it will take longer to find an apartment here than in many other parts of the country. However, compared to much of the rest of the state, finding an apartment in Chico is relatively easy. June and July are months where you should have no problem finding suitable accommodations.

Staying in the Know

Chico landlords can be tough, but they're always going to give the apartment to the person who puts together the best application, and who makes the best impression. Being punctual for meetings, dressing and acting professionally, and putting together a polished application package are important when you're looking for a home.

Life in Chico

Transportation

B-Line transit has a small bus line that has stops in Chico and the surrounding county. However, stay in Chico for long and you'll notice that many of the locals are commuting by bicycle. The city has gained national recognition for its "Bicycle Plan" that was instituted by its Bicycle Advisory Committee, making it one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country.

Where to play

Bidwell Park is one of the first places to go explore on your bicycle. In addition to the bike paths, you can hike, swim, or just relax and just enjoy the outdoors. The Sierra Nevada Taproom and Restaurant is a must see, and the beer they brew can also be found at many other local establishments. For the real, "college bar" experience, head to Madison Bear Garden.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
