The University Center is a very comfortable and fun place to live if you are a social person. The experiences I had were very nice. However the cafeteria could use some upgrades on food options and most of the RA's in the building are to serious and take away from the nice environment. But if one thing made me love this place it was one RA, Jorge. He is very friendly and takes time out of his way to know everyone in the building and help you with anything you need as well as sometimes even take you out for dinner to socialize and get more comfortable with living downtown. The best part is he is willing to sacrifice his time to get something you need done. Give him a promotion!

If is dorming in the University Center regardless of what school you attend, I personally recommend Jorge as an RA and a friend. He knows and can answer any questions/address concerns you have. Other thing to know, Jorge is pretty active in getting to know each and every resident in the building. He is the best and is not only a reliable and understanding RA, but a true friend.

I never write reviews but my experience with this place warranted one. While the building may present itself as the best option for students in this area do not be fooled. Experiences with staff, management especially, was always extremely unprofessional and never handled appropriately as everyone acts like they are doing residents a favor by letting them live here- not that the residents are paying ridiculous amounts to get the amentinities and service they deserve. Upon move in our carpet was still wet, but they had no other options for us so we dealt with a wet dog smell for a month plus because it wasnt able to dry properly. They decided to complete renovations during a big testing week with little regard to the lives of those living here. We were forced to move out into disgusting temp rooms for FIVE days because the project carried over the weekend (mind you I only had a double suite, not a larger apartment). Any questions about renovations or inconviences were disregarded and residents were frustrated to the point of tears. Heating and air conditioning are never conducive to the seasons so expect to live in a sticky sauna in warmer months and freeze the beginning of winter. Discipline in the building is done by a pick and choose basis and there is little consistency in how things are run. Cafeteria is mediocre. Dont expect meals on the weekend as practically everything is closed and what is offered is a gross joke. Again, I cant reiterate enough how unprofessional and rude management is to work with. Take your money elsewhere!

They care more about money than your actual well being. The food is cheap and inedible if you don't have a choice but to eat there every day. The UC management does not care about you at all. This year they decided to create a "New UC" which kicked me out of my student housing for 5 days while they turned the carpet floors, which were perfectly fine, into hardwood. This change made no sense because the carpet was overall much better to live on. Imagine waking up and putting your bare feet on cold hardwood floor every morning. It's not fun. Not only that, but during the renovations, the workers did not care about my room at all. almost half of my belongings were either broken, or went missing. Though they did give us a storage box to put our belongings during renovations, it is not nearly big enough to pack an entire rooms worth of stuff into. Do yourself a favor and don't stay at the UC. If you're a student and the UC is the only choice for housing, find an apartment outside the city. It is much cheaper and you'll be happier with it. (Note: it's $14,000 for 9 months)

Renovations took place and SO many people had their personal possessions damaged by the contractors. They stained my mattress with paint, I contacted the management office. They forwarded my formal email complaint to the paint company. It has now been over a month and I have yet to receive a reply. Management says there is nothing more they can do. Where is the accountability from Peak Campus. This was done by the people THEY hired. Facilities are ok for the most part but the management team is the issue. They also expect you to survive all school year with the same swipe in key (that you swipe over 10 times a day), if it gets damaged or stolen its $50 to replace. Stay away.

FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO LIVE. The University Center markets itself as a student friendly building that offers top of the line amenities for students who attend school in Downtown Chicago... this is a perfect example of FALSE ADVERTISING. Prior to moving In this year, none, and I repeat NONE, of the students were informed of renovations that would be happening. We received notices from the University Center about a week or two before they began. RENOVATIONS happened TO FALL ON FINALS WEEK. This made it extremely difficult to find a place to work without being bothered. Not only was my ability to study taken away from me, but so were things in my room. I took before and after pictures of all my belongings before construction, and upon my arrival OVER $100 OF MY STUFF WAS GONE. (2 HDMI Chords, A Customized metal desk statue that was gifted to me, and my Chicago flag.) During the renovation process I requested a temp-room. When I arrived, the room was FILLED with trash, dirty wet towels, and smelled awful. It also took 4 hours before they even came in to clean it. Heres my breakdown of my three (3) years Ive living here. Food: The food here is TERRIBLE. Not only is it super dry and inedible, but the presentation makes it feel like youre literally being served something straight out of a horror film. The chicken is piled up and you basically choke on the bones. The vegetables are either over cooked to the point where they taste like char, or undercooked and are cold. Everything is either soaked in butter or covered in grease. If you think the food is bad, check out the silverware. The cups are stained and all the drinks have a dish soap after taste due to lack of washing. You cant even have a refreshing beverage to help the terrible food go down. The silver wear is also stained, if youre lucky to find any. They never seem to have any forks when you need them. WiFi: Ugh. There is nothing more frustrating then trying to do your homework and not being able to access anything.... am I right? Well, the UC clearly doesnt understand that. Even with the upgraded high-speed WiFi that they are currently installing, the internet is so slow that you cant even load a YouTube video. Its actually so bad that Ive had to miss assignments because of how slow it is. Technology should be their main focus, yet they continue to put it on the bottom of their list. The Rooms: After renovations they arent so bad, but they used the cheapest and most easy to damage material possible. That being said, expect them to charge you for damages that you didnt make after youve lived here. (Trust me, they will find a way to make money off you). The bed need improving, the springs in the mattresses poke directly into your back and you pretty much wake up aching every day. Rules & Policies: DONT. EVEN. GET. ME. STARTED. Like I mentioned before, the UC loves to milk you for all that you have. If you lock yourself out of your room 3 times, expect to be charged $50 to have someone walk you up and open your door. Yep. Just the act of getting someone to open your door costs you $50. Obviously underaged drinking and smoking is a big deal, but when it comes to even the slightest bit of noise during their ridiculously early quiet hours, they will come into your room and give you a notice. Not only do they give you a notice, you literally have to meet with someone in management and discuss what you did wrong. Its honestly humiliating as a young adult to be lectured about making noise, even if someone didnt complain. My advice to any parents or students reading this review, take what I say seriously. None of this is an exaggeration. Save yourself the ridiculous amount of money it takes to live here and find your own place/another student dorm. This building only cares about profits and not the students. They market their amenities as things that benefit you as a student, but actually end up holding you back.

Dear Parents/Students, DO NOT LIVE HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY SORRY. I am about to enjoy being kicked out of my own apartment during FINALS WEEK so that they can do their "renovations". While I should be studying for my last exam I have to move all of my stuff into another temporary room and then into storage before break, then back into my original room on the first day of the new quarter. Meanwhile before then while I am trying to study there are construction people 1 floor directly above me making tons of noise. Not sure what they're trying to accomplish, I have heard the renovations are kind of spotty. Advice is you could retain more tenants if you didn't treat all of them so disrespectfully and inconsiderately. Also, after the renovations, they did not clean up their mess AT ALL. There was debris and dust and garbage all over my living room and bathroom floors, as well as the kitchen and bathroom sinks. RIDICULOUS! They have no respect or regard for any of their tenants, this is the worst customer experience I have ever seen in my life by FAR. Got stuck in the elevator 2 or 3 times. Heat goes off all the time and if you do not report it right away it will get very cold very fast. Salad bar often has stale spinach, rotting cucumbers, or old tomatoes. On 2 occasions, the chicken I got was not fully cooked. On 3 occasions, the pasta I got was not fully cooked. Eggs have been undercooked. Dish washer leaked and flooded the kitchen. Some of the washing machines are broken in the laundry room. Some of the broken machines aren't even labeled broken, they do not spin cycle, and you have to pay extra to wash them a second time since they are soaking wet. The refund procedure is insane and most often you do not get refunded or if you do its for a partial amount of what you're actually owed. Often times, the card station is not working so you are not in any way able to add money to your card and do any laundry. Walls are paper thin, you can hear everything that is going on next to you even if it is quiet. Do not try to open a print account for the lab on the second floor, most of the time the printer does not work and you cannot receive any refund. Management office gone on weekends so essentially there is no one in charge at those times. Internet is very bad unless you buy a very expensive router. Pretty much a complete rip off. Response to response- I will NOT consider you again in the future. I will NEVER have anything but NEGATIVE things to say about your building and your employees

The food is way more expensive than it should be...This place never worth the price. And if you live in here, you will fill like you live in a prison, you have no right at all, you cant say no to the management people, on the contrast they will never say yes too what ever you talk to them. Btw you will never got the elevator when you need it. This place really disappointed me. So I have to let more people notice this before they give you money.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. I REPEAT DO NOT LIVE HERE. I dont write reviews for anything but this building is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I dont even know where to start but please read this if you are considering living here for any extended period of time. The cafe has literally given me and my friends illneses on multiple occasions. There has been dried grime and lipstick coating the glasses and plates in the cafeteria. There are next to no vegan/vegetarian options in the caf, and the caf blatantly lies and says that certain foods are vegetarian when they are absolutely not. The workers are rude and literally sweep the ground under your feet as you are eating. The hours are not optimal as well. They close at 8 every night and Outtakes (the convenience store in the building) closes at 11 and 10 on weekends. This makes no sense since some students have class until 9:20 or 9:50. The roommate system is totally bunk, and they admitted to just throwing people together because they didnt have enough time. I got paired with someone who has absolutely nothing in common with me. The rooms and WERE fine before new management kicked us out to do renovations. These renovations included replacing the carpeted floors with extremely scratchable wood style planks and the most fragile paint I have ever seen in my entire life. It literally comes off the wall with your fingernail. Next, they sent us back into our rooms when the wood flooring was not done drying at all, resulting in heaps of glue seeping through the cracks and staining the brand new floor. Not to mention there is a literal bare footprint in the new paint on my windowsill. The renovations crew also left 2 of the four beds in the suite completely disfunctional, meaning we had to put in a work order to fix them (which can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days). They also completely destroyed one of my posters that I had moved completely out of the way. They give you almost no explanation of what is going on ever, and not even the RAs have any idea whats going on half of the time. Today someone knocked on my door and swiped themselves in saying engineering coming in and said it was cold in my room, messed with the temperature meter, unplugged my lights and chargers from a surge protector and left with the surge protector in hand. Im not sure if I violated some rule of no surge protectors but he didnt say a single word to me about not being able to have them, he just left with it. There are a million other little things I could get into with this building but this review is already too long. I am beyond furious with what Ive experienced here, especially at such a high price. Please do not live here and do not let your kids live here.

Rude Inept staff, terrible food, and outdated disgusting rooms. The meal plan is a rip off and most of the food is of dubious quality. Couple that with the fact a majority of the food workers act like a bunch of bumbling idiots. Major problems with the very rude staff that obviously don't care about their job. A giant waste of 14k to be surrounded by rejects and losers. The property owner obviously doesnt care about any of the suckers that will pay to live here. Dont be lured in by the Propaganda theyre sending out either that theyre making a bunch of changes to the apartments either. You can lease better apartments in the city for a more reasonable price.

I was visiting Chicago over the summer for three days and it was pretty good. The pricing and location was great. I especially loved the amount of security there was. Not anyone could just come in so I felt extremely safe. The girls in the front desk were extremely nice and friendly especially upon first greeting. Fortunately I didnt have to share a room so that was another added bonus. It was also very clean which is essential. Its definitely no super fancy five star hotel but for the price I really enjoyed staying here.
