Merwyn Apartments

IHI completed its historic renovation of The Merwyn Apartments in January 2021. These 40 new studio and one-bedroom homes provide critical workforce and affordable housing in Astoria, Oregon. IHI worked closely with the City of Astoria, its Downtown Historic District Association, and the broader Astoria community to bring this historic building back to life. Located in the heart of downtown Astoria, adjacent to both City Hall and the public library, the Merwyn was vacant for many years. Fortunately, the roof was largely intact, which meant the interior was in good enough condition that IHI could restore many historic elements, including original hardwood floors, vertical grain fir windows, historic corridors, and the historic lobby. The new project also includes community space, a manager's office, lobby gathering space, bike storage, and a laundry room.
