Broadstone Santa Monica is one of the newest and most expensive apartment communities in New Mexico. Every resident here could EASILY afford a mortgage, yet for one reason or another, we have all chosen to live in this community. Almost every single resident drives a brand new vehicle, from VW to Mazda to Mercedes Benz. The amenities are very nice, the property is clean and well lit. But the customer service of the office staff is lacking and the residents are snobbish. Complained to the manager that people speed through the complex making me fear for my car, my self, or my dog being hit and she didn't really seem to know what to do. Yet, every single other factor of the community appearance is easily micromanaged via blast email from what kind if furniture you can have on your patio, to when Christmas decor must be removed. I really didn't move here and agree to pay this amount in rent to be bothered with these annoying emails, whether or not they apply to me. Every single time I get one, I dislike this place a little more.
This area is prime freeway access and it's nice that it's gated, but it's entirely surrounded by old trailer park/mobile home properties, so the actual area right outside the gates isn't that nice. They also nickel and dime you for community expenses and you will receive a monthly bill of $23 for trash pickup, and also $6-$10 for community lighting. I just find that so TACKY that for $1300+ in rent a month, there's just no way the community can find a way to provide those things without passing the costs directly to residents. I have never lived in such an expensive community, nor one that hit me up for trash fees.
The women that work in the office are that fake kind of "professional" where they say all the right words, but their attitude and tone of voice is condescending and subtly aggressive. I just moved in 2 months ago and I really don't want to move again, so I will probably end up stuck here until I am ready to relocate out of town in a year or so (which is the reason I rent instead of own). Completely unhelpful, but apparently very glad to take your check.
If you do decide to live here, make sure to check where your assigned parking spot is before you sign the lease (aka once you sign, if your spot is down the block from your front door that's your problem), and also make note that while there's time in the day to blast emails about grounds people finding too much dog poop outdoors, there is not time to email or call residents that have received packages via FedEx that were signed for by office staff. That's a service they don't offer. No trash included, no outdoor lighting included, no courtesy phone call service included. Geez all of that for only $1300+ a month rent? What a joke. In my opinion, top tier price merits top tier service, but I guess I am alone in that feeling. I've had it with trying to get them to step up their service, I will just mind my own business and spread the word of what it's really like inside the gates.
Ps. The gorgeous fire place in the model doesn't come in every unit, the floors are paper thin (so live upstairs if at all possible), the bathroom exhaust fans do not have an individual switch and are very loud (so if you're in there fixing your hair you can't hear anyone else in the home talking to you), and there are no light fixtures in the bedrooms or living room area, which means you will spend a lot of money on lamps, lightbulbs, and electricity as well. Last condo was same square footage and never paid more that $45 at all time high electricity usage, first month at Broadstone electricity is $90. It's a money hole. Average actual cost for basic living is just above $1500 (not including internet or tv service) a month. I have the money, but I wish I got better customer service and trash service or a freaking light fixture in the bedrooms to go with it. I shudder to think what I'd be spending if they hadn't waived my pet rent as an incentive for move in.
