I went with a friend to Shaukin today and ordered a Mysore Masala Dosa. We were served a dosa with pav bhaji stuffing, which clearly is not what we ordered.
We asked to meet the chef to raise our objection. After an excruciatingly long wait, the chef came out to see us. We told him that what he served us wasn't Mysore Masala Dosa. He was vehemently unapologetic, condescending and arrogant. He attempted to brush away his mistake. I repeatedly pointed out that he's wrong, to which his best responses were "This isn't Mysore" (Thanks, Captain Obvious), "I've been in the industry for 15 years and I know what Mysore Masala Dosa is" (No, you don't), "I served you food" (Really, is that the bar we're setting?), "Next time, ask me beforehand what you want and I'll give you" (Well, I'm not asking you for anything special. I'm asking you to serve me what I ordered).
All through that interaction, he maintained a smug air, pretended like it's my mistake and that he was tolerating me despite my audacity to point out his mistake.
To summarise: you may/may not get what you ordered. If you don't know Indian food, you'll probably be served something that tastes like Indian food, but you there is no guarantee what you're served... because, and I quote: "I say I serve Butter Chicken and I serve something good".
PS: The wait times.. oh! the wait times. Get a book or two to pass time while you wait.
