Bloomfield Neighborhood Summary

Bloomfield is Pittsburgh’s Little Italy. In the early 20th century, hundreds of Italians from the Abruzzo region settled here, opening restaurants and businesses in an attempt to recreate a little piece of coastal Italy in snowy Pennsylvania. Today, that heritage is evident in unique, family-owned businesses, groceries, and restaurants. It’s a welcoming, tight-knit community with distinct charm, and in recent years it’s become a haven for the Pittsburgh grad-student set. It’s easy to see why: Rents are affordable, the neighborhood is attractive, and Carnegie Mellon and Pitt are a short bus ride away.

Methodology

Each month, using over 1 million Rentable listings across the United States, we calculate the median 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom rent prices by city, state, and nation, and track the month-over-month percent change. To avoid small sample sizes, we restrict the analysis for our reports to cities meeting minimum population and property count thresholds.
