University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

University of Minnesota – Twin Cities (U of M) is an urban University that sits right on the banks of the Mississippi. Academically, the school is well-known for its business, management, education, human development, and law departments. The school encourages research projects, even among undergrads.

The campus has a rich party scene that appeals to many different types of people. It’s not uncommon to see groups of people hopping from party to party on weekends in Dinkytown. U of M also has a very diverse Greek life, with more than 30 Fraternities and Sororities for almost every background and personality. They’re also known for their outstanding theme parties.

Sports are an important part of the U of M college experience. Students flock to the games, whether it’s a football game or hockey tournament and unite by cheering on their teams! Even those who don’t like sports are often swept up by all of the excitement that revolves around game days!

When to Search

Competition for apartments can be fierce in Minneapolis, considering all students (in Minneapolis’ and the neighboring St. Paul) can choose to live off campus. Students typically start solidifying their roommates for the next year and scouting out places to rent in October. Yes, you have to be ahead of everyone else to get exactly what you want. Around February, most people have already decided on a place and signed their leases. When April rolls around, it becomes significantly more difficult to find a fairly priced place close to the university. Of course, there are plenty of other apartments out there, but it’s important to begin early so you can find the perfect place!
