I was unable to view the unit before moving in because they were waiting for someone to move out, but once I moved in they said it had been vacant for months so I may see a bug or two- but the unit had been sprayed that day. I was given the incorrect keys when I went to move, and was unable to get in touch with anyone, costing me in having to go back and unload the moving truck and rent it again the next day, as well as extend my lease on y previous place. The sliding door was broken and was not fixed for over a month and a half, which was sort of a safety risk as the porch was close to the ground. Multiple neighbors leave trash and dog poop bags outside their door for multiple days. I was also unaware that the unit had major issues with cockroaches previously, and had not been treated properly. After them "spraying" (I had to make sure and be home for when the big guy came because otherwise they would just slightly spray the kitchen and nowhere else) for 2 months, the infestation had only gotten worse. It was terrible living conditions, and I had to purchase my own roach killing and cleaning supplies. My dog sustained bites to his stomach from the bugs, and the antibiotics to help the infection were not cheap. I should have moved out of the complex all together, but they offered to make a deal where I moved to a unit across the street. While there are no bugs, thankfully, my rent has actually increased, and it is not a unit I would have chosen to move in if not given these circumstances. I received a $50 credit and an INCREASE to my rent?!?! The move cost a bit with the moving truck rental, the many loads of laundry to wash ALL of my clothes, and dishwashing/ cleaning all dishes/pans/etc, having to throw away a convection-oven microwave and new Keurig, and the impact on my income and job while I had to take off to deal with it all.
I have been in the new unit only a week, and the heating unit has gone out (leaking onto my clothes in the closet), fuses have blown, and the lack of privacy being on the first floor is terrible. While I have not seen any cockroaches (I purchased multiple traps and bait), I have sustained multiple spider bites. I have also requested the apartment be sprayed for roaches as soon as possible after I moved in, and it has yet to have been addressed.
The management has changed recently and is very friendly, but the living conditions are questionable- especially depending on what side of the street you live on. I appreciate that I have shelter, but you are much better off living somewhere else.
