I've lived at Chapel Tower for seven years now and I'm quite happy with my apartment as well as my interactions with the staff and fellow neighbors. I live in building one and it's quite quiet and safe. I've never had trouble finding a parking spot and it's quite an easy walk to the west campus of Duke University.

I chose this apartment because it's the closest to my school (Duke West campus), I can just walk or bike. It also near bus stop either in Erwin Road or Morreene Road, so it's helpful if you don't have a car. The rent fee is reasonable for old apt, the neighborhood just fine, not too crowd. I live in renovated unit so it has washer and dryer to use anytime I need and the management changed my fridge due to the leakage on the previous one. However, the roaches issue is the most annoying thing which I believe the management did not do their best effort to tackle it. My unit had been exterminated but It wasn't help a lot. Overall, it is just fine for you to live here.

I've been a resident at Chapel Tower for about four months. I chose it because of it's close proximity to Duke's campus. The rent is reasonable for the location, and while the apartments are older, I am in a recently renovated space with a new fridge, washer, and dryer. It's been a great fit and the staff have been consistently responsive to any questions I've had.

Corrupt and rude. Moved in with brand new carpets, moved out two years later and they charged me for brand new carpets. The carpets had normal wear and tear, which all of the pictures proved. They said they will talk with the manager and get back to me no one ever got back to me then there was a letter in the mail saying my bill had gone to collections. No one has answered my phone calls and voicemails. The rent also goes up every year. Not worth it. Dont live here. Every apartment has roaches no matter what you do.

I moved to Chapel Tower early in July in order to be close to class as I began a masters program at Duke. I have had a great experience so far, and Chapel Tower caters to the needs of both students and those working/living in the Durham area. The location of the apartments has been ideal. It takes only 15 minutes to walk to class every day, as Chapel Tower is conveniently located so close to Dukes West Campus. Beyond this, the community is close to both 15-501 and the Durham Freeway, allowing residents to access Durham, Chapel Hill, and the surrounding areas quickly and efficiently. Beyond a convenient location, the apartments themselves are actually quite nice. I was pleased to find new appliances including a full washer and dryer, dishwasher, and fridge in my one bed one bath apartment. Chapel Tower also adds a number of nice touches such as recent renovations, custom wall colors, a waste valet service, and a brand new mail system. With all of these features, living in Chapel Tower has been both comfortable and functional. Another factor that has defined my experience at Chapel Tower has been the extremely helpful and polite staff members. When I first moved in I had no trouble with paperwork or move-in details thanks to Brendas help in the leasing office. Whenever there is a problem, the leasing office is only a phone call away. In my experience, the leasing office staff has been very accommodating and efficient at solving any problems that have arisen. Overall, I highly recommend Chapel Tower to anyone looking for an affordable, convenient, and pleasant place to live in Durham or around Duke.

I have been living in a two bedroom apartment in Chapel Tower for a few months now. The location is excellent for those working or studying on Duke's West Campus; it is easily accessible on foot or on bike, and the LaSalle Loop bus has a stop right in front of the apartment. It is also very close to bus stops to other parts of Durham as well as Chapel Hill. The leasing office staff, especially Brenda, is friendly, helpful, and responsive. The interior of the apartments is mostly nice, as I believe it was recently renovated. A washer, dryer, and dishwasher are already included in the apartment, which is very convenient. My biggest complaint would be the cockroaches. While cockroaches are certainly found in many apartments in Durham, they seem to be more plentiful here than other places I have lived. I have also heard other people worried about crime in this area, although I have not personally witnessed any myself in or around Chapel Tower. Overall, I am quite satisfied with Chapel Tower in terms of value for its price.

Since moving here last year in 2016 I have had nothing but great experiences. The location was perfect I was close to downtown where there's lots to do and even close to the shops on 15 501 where you can do all your shopping. My neighbors are like family and they always lend a helping hand or even a cup of sugar, I've never had any safety issues or even noise problem; and I come in late from work each night and they keep it very well lit! The staff is not only professional but they also care about their residence in a personal way that is one of the things I really like about this community is that we are a community you're not just known as an apartment number--- but by name, each and every person!

I have really enjoyed staying here at Chapel Towers over the last few years. A great place to live, with very nice neighbors. This location is convenient as it is close to Duke and to grab a quick meal. My most liked thing about living here at Chapel Towers would have to be the reliability of the Staff & Maintenance. The pool area is a beautiful place to spend a few hours on a hot sunny day.

I've been living here for almost 2 years now, and I love it here. Coming from the Wash DC area, I am VERY happy with the value, per dollar ratio here. Good bus access, and about a mile from my office. The office staff is courtious, and helpful. Maintenance is also responsive, and makes repairs in a timely manner. I like the neighborhood and the people who live here.

Chapel Towers is a very nice place to live in my opinion, the apartments are nice and spacious, the neighborhood is nice, the staff here are always nice and respectful. Especially Brenda and Emma who work the front desks. Every time I go in there, they are happy, smiling and they always do there best in regards to helping in any situation. Maria who works in one of the offices is also extremely nice and respectful, always helping with any issues we might have. The pool and areas in the neighborhood are well maintained, the laundry mat is also well in order, and the people there are nice and friendly.

I am a current student at Duke University and did not start looking for apartments until late June. Many apartments that I called had no available units left and/or lackluster customer service. However, my experience with Chapel Tower was excellent from the start. I spoke on the phone with Brenda Funes, who was very helpful, energetic, and relate-able. She gave me all of the information I needed and personally took me around to the see the available units the next day. Thanks to Brenda and Chapel Towers in general I was able to easily figure everything out that I needed to with apartment hunting. Considering this is my first apartment, I was very pleased with how effectively everything was run at Chapel Towers. I am excited to be living there in the fall, especially due to its close proximity to Duke's campus.

Cheap rent. Poor infrastructure. Chapel Tower lacks ADA accessibility- handicap parking spots, slopes wheelchair ramps, trip hazards on sidewalks and railing on open stairs leading into their buildings. I had to inquire multiple times before getting a handicap spot in front of my building and, even then, it was placed in and parking spot where the asphalt is has several trip hazards. They recently started repairing potholes and patching problem areas, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Regarding the cable and internet services. The wiring of the buildings is done in such a way that you will never reach optimum bandwidth for high-speed internet. Multiple units share common feeds. I've had to call Tiem Warner cable monthly for connectivity issues as a result. They were the ones that explained this to me in detail and told me that there is nothing they can do until the complex paid to upgrade the hardware. Lastly, the sinks in my apartment backup weekly. Not because of what I put down the drain, but because of what other people in my building put down the drain. That, or the sanitary sewer leading out of the building is under designed. Regardless, it is a hassle. In my opinion, this is the place for you if you simply need to save money. But if you have more than moderate expectations for the living quarters, infrastructure and customer service I recommend looking elsewhere.

It's getting better here. When we first moved in we had a lot of issues with children looking in our windows (the first floor apartments are halfway underground, so the windows sit at ground level), but the kids in questions seem to have moved. In the summer, residents of first floor apartments get a very early wake up call every other day or so from maintenance workers trimming grass with weed wackers; since the windows are at ground level, a weed wackers would be running roughly 5 feet from my sleeping face (with a window between us) at 7:30. There are a tooooon of renovations going on, and it's quite consistently loud. My ceiling started leaking when a renovator made a mistake in the apartment above me. They aren't careful with their nails, either; I had five nails in the tires of my car due to maintenance workers dropping them in the parking lot. Walls are extremely thin. Our sink has started flooding at least three or four times in the past year, spewing sewage-smelling water and refusing to drain properly. In the past they've fixed this rather quickly (the whole building contributes to the quality of the pipes, so if someone above you is flushing coffee grounds down the sink, the first floor apartment feels the hurt), however we've currently had a work request in for four days on this issue and it hasn't been resolved. Pet fee is a little ridiculous. Windows are extremely dated and don't lock very well. Make sure there are locks on the windows when you move in, there weren't on several of ours. Our bathtub leaks from the bottom whenever someone takes a bath (not a shower). Virtually no bathroom storage, not a ton of kitchen storage. No closet lights, only two overhead lights in the whole apartment. I will say that it was awesome to move into brand new carpets and brand new high efficiency appliances, all of which worked great. I think that some of the repairs in the building are cheap and faulty, though. I've read a lot about bug problems in the comments, but we haven't really had that issue at all, in the whole year that we've been here and without needing to be particularly sterile. Parking is a non issue. The pool looks clean although I never used it. The garbage situation has improved tremendously, folks come pick up every day from small trash receptacle that we leave outside the door. Recycling needs a lot of work, we still have to take it to a big dumpster on the far side of the property. Office staff have always been very nice to us. Neighbors can be a little loud and leave a lot of beer bottles and trash around, but are always super nice when you talk to them about it. No robberies since I've moved in. All in all, I just felt like the rent was far, far too expensive for what we were getting, especially with much nicer small houses renting for less in East and Southeast Durham. Even a small house in Trinity Park rents for not much more than an apartment here. They tried to raise our rent dramatically after the first year, and the only way that it would have been at least close to what we paid initially was if we opened an 18-month lease, which simply wasn't worth it. Maybe affordable for Duke Students, but I don't doubt that a lot of the residents that came here for affordable housing are being displaced.

They try to show you that pic of that well furnished apartment but dont let them fool you the worse experience of my life really digusting dont let them tell you those are beatles dont let them lie like they did me i cant understand unless you have no other choice at all which you definitely do living in durham i would never never never never even step foot in that complex again in my life and its right next to the projects pictures can be deceiving DONT WALK RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPLEX UNLESS YOUR COOL WITH CUTTING ON YOUR KITCHEN LIGHTS AND SEEING A ROACH RELAY RACE AND I AM SO SERIOUS

There is a nice park across the way as well for the children that we enjoy taking them to. Nice neighbors and an overall good community. We have not ran into any problems and look forward to spending more years with them.

I've lived at Holly Hills for about a month, and the complex is fine by me. I live in a spacious, recently renovated 1-bedroom apartment and only pay $650 per month in rent. As a student, I took advantage of several discounts and got a utilities package for $195 per month. Holly Hills is within walking distance of Duke Med School (about 1 mile), and I've had no problems with noise, crime, or bugs (albeit I've only been here for a month). The folks in the office are friendly, and signing the lease was straightforward. My biggest complaint is maintenance. When I moved in, a bunch of little things were missing (e.g. towel racks, shower rod, washer and dryer weren't hooked up, etc), and maintenance never responded to some of my requests. My apartment is also poorly insulated. On a 100-degree day the air-conditioner can't keep up, and the apartment heats up to 81-82 degrees by mid-afternoon. However, this issue is probably specific to third-floor units. The pool and gym are off-site as well, which is inconvenient. Holly Hills isn't the Ritz, but it's a decent place for the price. It's good value, and as a med student that's what I was looking for.

Absolutely do not move here if you're looking for somewhere with a community that has any common courtesy, cleanliness and even a little bit of respect. Many children/young adults running and yelling outside of my door, kicking balls at my windows, looking IN my windows, skateboarding on the stairs, hitting the stairs with sticks and just being overall disruptive. The neighbors play very loud music (that I can hear over my own TV) in their apartments and cars at all times. They also think it's OK to throw their trash everywhere. It's disgusting. I've complained to staff but have not heard back from them. As I said, very discourteous neighbors. The noise/disturbance rules in the resident manual are obviously not enforced. Also, I've had the apartment exterminated 3 times and continue to have a roach issue that I was lucky enough to move into. It obviously will never be resolved with the type of neighbors that live here.

Chapel Towers is by far the worst apartment complex I know of. All apartments are going to be sort of noisy... yes... that is unavoidable, but this apartment complex is loud all the time. Loud music, kids screaming at the top of their lungs and kicking balls off of people's cars and the garbage cans outside and running through the stairwells doing the same. The number of pests you see are disgusting no matter how clean you keep your apartment or how many sprays or baits you use to kill them. The windows, walls, and doors are not sound proofed or insulated properly so expect high electric bills as the outside air will either heat your apartment ridiculously or freeze you out. Wiring hasn't been updated since the 70s and they are still using aluminum wiring so expect lots of sparking, non-working outlets and numerous other electrical issues. For example, I purchased a brand new Christmas tree and plugged it in. It lasted 2-3 minutes before the outlet fried the tree and kicked off power for half of the apartment... and nothing else was even on! NONE of the breakers tripped so not only did my property get damaged but I was worried about fires. I called the main office and they said they would send someone. One hour later... two hours... you get the point... I hadn't seen or heard from anyone. Several hours later I called right before closing and had to become less than nice to see a response. That takes me to the office staff... their system could use some work. I used to pay my rent every month with a check that I took to the office and put in the hand of one of the workers with my apartment clearly written on it. Much to my surprise that my boyfriend came home to an eviction notice on the door for non-payment while I was in the hospital with a newborn. They didn't have a "record of me paying." They had no record of the payment but refuse to write you a receipt in the office. This didn't happen just once, but TWICE and the office staff became very rude and insinuated that I just didn't pay. Fortunately, I moved to paying it online and much to my surprise... no more eviction notices! Overall, save yourself the stress and don't move here. This place is nothing but trouble.
