My three stars are strictly about location, NOT about service.
This apartment is located at Rodeo and LaBrea. It is VERY convenient to metro (bus and train) lines. I have lived here since the 1990s and only stay because my rent is affordable and it is conveniently located.
The good: location, location, location. Also, the people in the neighborhood are very friendly (I am specifically speaking about long time residents in the Bali Apartments, Gloria Homes and surrounding neighborhood. I am NOT speaking about new comers or gentrifiers. These people are rude and distant.) I LOVE my neighborhood and go for early morning walks and everyone (the OGs of the neighborhood, smile and speak and it feels good living here). I also know everyone who works at Ralph's. It feels good living in a community of happy people (again, not the gentrifiers).
The bad: nothing really, except for the trash that neighborhood people leave outside and it is very noisy in this neighborhood. The new comers and the gentrifiers. They act like they don't want to engage people who have lived here...they act as if they are better. But, this has nothing to do with the apartment complex, but it changes the dynamics of the community feeling.
The ugly. The UGLIEST part of living here is the Gloria Homes staff. They are rude, condescending, distant, aloof and horrible. Plain horrible. They have set rules in place that are NOT good for basic living. A tenant cannot, I repeat a tenant CANNOT have a rental car to park in their OWN parking space. If you are in an accident or have a rental car because your mechanic gives you a loaner, you CANNOT park it safely in your space. You must park it on the street. Like, who does this? It makes no sense.
They will TOW YOUR CAR and TOW YOUR RENTAL CAR for the littlest thing. It is as if they want to make their tenants unhappy.
BUT, they let security and vendors park wherever they want to park and their cars, trucks nor vans will be towed nor ticketed.
Long term tenants, folks who have lived here for 15+ years are not treated with any loyalty. Our apartments are not updated nor do they check to see if we need anything or make sure our apartments are upgraded. They used to do this in the 1990s, each year you would get an upgrade. No longer!
The heating units are old, they don't/won't change the carpet nor do they paint. They ONLY work on the outside of the buildling to make it look nice, but neglect the interior. Every tenant that has lived here for over 10 years should have the new upgrades that they install for the new tenants.
Shameful!
