If I could do negative stars I would. This is the WORST apartment complex and I would never advise, under any circumstance, that anyone live here. I lived here for four months and had no issues (other than the pipes bursting four times that winter in my building and coming home to a flooded mess in 10 degree weather), when I moved out, I was told that if I stayed an extra day that I would not have to pay since they were renovating my apartment once I left (stupid me, I did not get this in writing because I thought they knew what they were talking about at the front office). Upon moving out I inquired as to my water bill which I had not once received in my time there, even though I asked every month and they always replied that they were "sorting" it out. I called every month after I moved out for six months and received the same response.
Six months after I moved out they tried to tell me that I owed them $700.00 but it wasn't them calling - it was a debt collector! When I asked for what they said they were charging me for a half of a months rent since I moved out on the first instead of the 31st. I told them what happened and they said that they would look into it. I also asked them why I hadn't been receiving bills if it was six months later to which again, they had no answer - they simply didn't know. I called them repeatedly to attempt to get this issue sorted out and no one would answer so I finally had to go in to the office and get someone to meet with face to face. We got the issue sorted out, the billing state they were addressing my bills to was "KE" instead of "KY" and all of my bills were being returned to sender - never once did they try to call me or email me or attempt to contact me in any way regarding this. I got the Senior Property Manager to finally understand what I had been telling them all along - that I was told I wouldn't have to pay extra by a member of their staff - and she finally realized that I was correct. She then wrote me a letter stating that my debt was paid in full.
Fast forward to a year after this incident - ONE AND A HALF YEARS AFTER I MOVED OUT - and much to my surprise, I receive a call from another debt collector telling me that they are attempting to collect a debt for, who else, the Enclave at Hartland. I called the Enclave and they said they would return my call however, they will not - according to the debt collector - be reaching out to me since they have now contracted the debt collector to collect my "outstanding debt". I have a legal document saying my debt to them is PAID IN FULL and yet, apparently, this doesn't matter to the Enclave because they cannot find proof of payment.
I am seeking legal counsel on the matter because this is a living nightmare. If you value your money, get them to sign that your rent is paid in full every month, that your water is paid in full every month and make sure you get it notarized because they will come after you when you move out for money you do not owe. I am not the first person that they have attempted to shake down for money after they have moved out and I won't be the last. DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM TO THIS PLACE. If you can find anywhere else to live, please do so that this does not happen to you!!! If you already live there, good luck to you.
If this has happened to anyone else, please reach out to me by commenting on this section, so we can explore joint legal action against the Enclave at Hartland.
