I feel like this review is necessary because I see them renovating the lobby and the hallways to try to make the building look like it is taken care of but thats about as far as it goes. Within the last year I have been through so much stress with this complex that I wont be able to list it all.
Definitely worth mentioning though is that the managers decide when to switch between AC and heat for your apartment. You cant have both. And they dont get it switched on the first hot or cold day either. Not that our unit ever worked to begin with. This winter my fiance and I slept in heavy coats under piles of blankets in below freezing weather because they hadnt switched the building to have hot air. When they did switch it, we realized our unit wasnt putting out anything beyond room temperature air so we were lent a space heater for the winter. Talk about a high electric bill. And lets not forget spending 100 Missouri summers without air conditioning. We were told that the problem could not be fixed and there was nothing they could do. I would have to go outside to feel the breeze because I would get so hot trying to wash my dishes or clean.
None of the apartments have dishwashers and the laundry room floods at least once a month. The washer and dryers frequently double charge you or dont even dry your clothes at all. They are extremely old and outdated and leave your clean laundry still feeling dirty because they are so full of gunk.
Now lets talk about the blatant disregard for residents once you sign a lease. Since June 2017 when we moved in, the parking lot and the street in front of the building was being worked on for about half of the time we lived there. From October to spring 2018 we were lucky to find street parking close to the building because the whole back lot was shut down. Several people (including myself) got $75 parking violations for street parking too close to out of bounds, even if it was just for a few minutes to run in the building for something. The garage under the lot was never opened to residents even though it is mostly empty 90% of the time. When asked why residents couldnt park there until the lot was fixed, the manager stated that unless we paid extra then it was out of the question.
Last point I want to make is that after we moved out, we did a final walkthrough with one of the managers who cleared us to move out and said everything looked great. Just today we received a copy of the form that we filled out and signed except water damage on the wall had been added in ink pen after the fact to make it look like we agreed with our signatures to whatever that meant. Considering how we left the unit in the same condition we got it, we are very upset and appalled that the 910 Penn staff continues to nickel and dime us for everything that they can take in very shady ways.
Whatever you do, do not sign a lease agreement with 910 Penn and ignore these reviews. You will end up paying so much more because of their long history of neglecting to care for the building and spend money on what residents actually need updated instead of getting a shiny new leasing office.
