Whether you moved to a city because you <a href=\"https:\/\/listwithclever.com\/research\/best-coffee-cities-2022\/\">love the coffee<\/a> and food, or for business reasons, you need to get settled ASAP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the sheer euphoria has died down a bit, maybe you also want to consider what it is you will need to make your new space feel more like home. After all, you want your apartment to be as comfortable, functional, and pleasant as it can possibly be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s our checklist for your new apartment, broken down by room to help you go through it with more ease:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Moving In &amp; Tidying Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1580709839515-54b8991e2813?ixid=MXwxMjA3fDB8MHxwaG90by1wYWdlfHx8fGVufDB8fHw%3D&amp;ixlib=rb-1.2.1&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=crop&amp;w=1000&amp;q=80\" alt=\"man in blue polo shirt sitting on chair\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first challenge you will face is move-in day. If you get ready for it knowing that there might be some hiccups, you are more likely to avoid a lot of the stress that\u2019s simply bound to arise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preparing everything you will need in advance will help a lot too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, for starters, you will need:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tissues, toilet paper, paper towels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trash bags\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cleaning equipment: brooms, soaps, rags, cleaners, detergents, and so on \u2013 consider every space and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moving.com\/tips\/34-essential-cleaning-products-every-home-needs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">how you will need to clean it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A basic tool kit: hammers, nails, screwdrivers, several pairs of scissors, hooks, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Batteries, extension cords, lightbulbs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three square meals \u2013 at least for day one. However, you might want to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/amerisleep.com\/mattresses\/memory-foam\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">invest in a comfortable memory foam mattress<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that provides plenty of support.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Storage \u2013 If you have a built-in closet, you won\u2019t have to consider dressers. What you do need to think about either way are hangers. You can also look into other <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Depending on the size and layout of your apartment, this might be where you put your iron and ironing board as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pillowcases, blankets, pillows, sheets, and the like \u2013 Make sure you have enough pairs to swap out regularly.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everything else can be purchased over time \u2013 decorative items, additional furniture, and extra items can all wait. You might also consider a hamper, curtains, and a mirror. You\u2019ll need to bring in:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A bathmat, shower curtain, shower rod, and shelves for all your bathroom products<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Towels of all sizes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and at least three sets \u2013 You\u2019ll probably be doing a lot of cleaning at first, so you will need to swap out the towels more often. Consider whether you\u2019ll use flannels for taking off makeup as well.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Toothbrushes, toothbrush holders, soap holders or dispensers along with the actual soap, toothpaste, and mouthwash<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plunger and all other cleaning materials and equipment<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trashcan and appropriate trash bags<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of your toiletries<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You might want to start by only bringing in the bare necessities. This will help you get settled in and allow you to have a decent shower, but you won\u2019t be overwhelmed with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/home\/organizing\/tips\/g810\/small-bathroom-storage\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">finding the right storage solution<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve identified how much stuff you need to store, you can consider cabinets, baskets, and other storage options.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>For the Kitchen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1556911220-bff31c812dba?ixid=MXwxMjA3fDB8MHxwaG90by1wYWdlfHx8fGVufDB8fHw%3D&amp;ixlib=rb-1.2.1&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=crop&amp;w=1000&amp;q=80\" alt=\"white over-the-range oven\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The kitchen will usually require a lot of items and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hgtv.com\/design\/rooms\/kitchens\/small-kitchen-storage-ideas-pictures\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a lot of storage space<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start by bringing in the bare necessities \u2013 enough to keep your family going and a spare so you don\u2019t have to wash up after every meal. If you already own all the plates and cutlery you will need, you can just store them. On the other hand, if you\u2019re shopping for new items, give yourself a bit of time to live in the apartment, consider what it is you usually cook, and go from there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For starters, bring over some:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plates and bowls<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knives and utensils<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glasses and mugs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pots and pans for immediate cooking<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cutting boards<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Storage containers for your meals<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A microwave is also a good option<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will also need dish soap, dish towels, and a dishwashing sponge \u2013 or dishwashing liquid if you have a machine for the task<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have a pantry, or if you\u2019re allocating some shelf or cabinet space for storing food, try to organize it from the very start, as opposed to just throwing everything in. All you really need is a couch and a TV. Of course, you can add in armchairs, coffee and end tables, rugs, book stands, and a whole host of other tech and decorative items.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it\u2019s best to start with the essentials and move on from there. It might mean the place is not as organized as you want it to be, but it will allow you to get a feel for the room. Maybe you place the sofa against one wall, only to discover it would be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To save yourself a lot of fuss later, give yourself a breather and just live in the space. There will be plenty of time for decorating and reorganizing over time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Wrap Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you already own everything you think you will need (which is rare when moving into your first apartment), your main focus should be storage and organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, as you most likely need to do a lot of additional shopping as well, focus first on the absolute necessities outlined here.
