20 Hawley street is literally the definition of discrimination and racial profiling. The book keeper made me feel highly uncomfortable and sad to be in my own skin. She was very rude with me for no apparent reason and had a VERY NASTY attitude towards me and others....the experiences that I had in this building were out right horrible and sad.
First, SOME (not all) of the staff they hire (college students) are very unprofessional and dont care about their job nor the people they service. Whenever I would ask them a question (always politely) about the place they would literally always tell me the the same exact sentence with an unhelpful smirk, to be honest I dont know, giggle giggle. :(. Who hires someone and doesnt educate them about their job or atleast see if their mentally capable of handling their job duties.
Second, they put all the black people in the same room on purpose to keep them away from the other residents. They never gave me a tour of my apartment or introduced me to my roommates before I moved in and none of knew each other. We never asked to be grouped with each other. They just decided to put every black resident in the same apartment. There was so much racism that I experienced in this place and it truly broke my spirit and soul and I almost committed suicide several times while living here because of the way I was treated. Whenever I had a simple issue such as needing my ac fixed, or getting a replacement key for my room, etc. they would always ACCIDENTLY forget my request or it would take days or weeks to hear back from them. I did a test and asked a Caucasian and Asian resident to request the same things that I did. And guess what happend? They responded to them in a matter of minutes! Thats a shame. I also was harassed and violently physically assaulted by one of the roommates they grouped me with because he lost $40 dollars so the first thing he decides to do is knock on my door and when I open the door he brutally attacks me in my room until there is blood everywhere. The first thing 20 Hawley street did was try to cover their butts and basically tell me that the situation isnt there probably. However, they did move me into a different room away from the violent roommate.
There was so much more that I went through while living here its crazy.
I know I sound like a complainer but Im honestly not and Ive never actually done a review of a place before but this place is ridiculous.
Dont get me wrong its cool that they have a movie theater and a hot tub that everyone has sex in apparently. (Yeah fyi dont get into the hot tub ).
The place isnt bad you just have to be mentally prepared to face discrimination depending on who you are and the color of your skin. The book keeper is very hostile and rude so just be calm when you talk to her dont stoop to her level. She even made rude comments to my freind and her baby when they came to visit me. Everyone hear has the right to have a visitor for a maximum of 3 days. I had company come over for a day and the first thing she said was do we have new 20 Hawley street residents?in a rude sarcastic tone.First of all, what type of monster makes rude comments towards a mother and her baby. Thats sick. Be the bigger person no matter what. Even when people treat you with anger and disgust and make you feel like less of a human being still treat them with kindness.
The gym is nice however and the maintenance team and security guard are very polite. Along with the 2 guys names Tony and Justin that work there.
Once again, the place isnt completely bad. Its actually looks nice in the inside. But dont take my word for it go check it out yourself. My experience may be very different from yours. You might totally fall in love with the place or you might develop ptsd and fall into deep depression and attempt to commit suicide or get brutally assualted by one of your roommates. Who knows.
